Data You Give Us Directly
Search Queries
A name or location entered in a search tool is sent directly to the outside company that operates that tool. The provider processes the request and supplies its results. Macon County Criminal History does not retain or log those search terms on its own systems.
Messages and Contact Submissions
An email or other message may be kept long enough to review and answer it. We do not ordinarily disclose that correspondence beyond our organization. Disclosure may occur when a valid legal duty requires it.
Data We Gather Automatically
When a page loads, the server may record basic technical and usage details:
- Page-view dates and times
- Browser name and version
- Device category and operating system
- Pages viewed and approximate time spent on them
- A referring website, when one is supplied
- The device's Internet Protocol address
Cookies and Analytics
Cookies are small files placed on a device. This site and its analytics services may use them to measure traffic in aggregate, including popular pages and points where visits end. Browser controls can reject or remove cookies. Blocking them may change how certain site features work.
What We Do With This Data
- Diagnosing errors and other technical faults
- Operating the website and improving load performance
- Routing a search request to the provider chosen by the tool
- Measuring which reference pages visitors use
- Displaying advertising that may reflect visitor interests
No Criminal-Record Data on File
Macon County Criminal History does not keep, compile, or sell a database of personal criminal records. It publishes reference material about records maintained by Macon County Sheriff, the Circuit Court Clerk, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation, and the Tennessee Sexual Offender Registry. Visitor information is not combined into a consumer report or a record about another person. This website is not a consumer reporting agency under the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Third-Party Search Partners
Outside companies power the search boxes available on this website. Their privacy terms, retention rules, and sharing practices govern data entered into those tools. We do not set or control those policies. Read the applicable provider policy before submitting information.
Links to Other Websites
Links may lead to Macon County offices, Tennessee agencies, court systems, legal resources, or commercial search services. Once a visitor follows an external link, the destination's privacy terms apply. Review them before providing personal information.
Advertising providers may use their own technology to measure activity across websites and select ads. That processing occurs on provider systems and under provider terms.
Who Might See Your Data
We do not sell personal information. Limited data may be available to:
- Analytics vendors that measure traffic and site performance
- Search providers that receive a query submitted through their tool
- Advertising networks that serve material on these pages
- Government or law-enforcement bodies acting under a valid legal demand
How We Protect Your Data
Reasonable, commonly used security measures protect the information we handle. No Internet system is completely secure, however. We cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or another security event will never occur.
Users Under 18
This website is intended for adults and does not knowingly collect personal information from a person under 18. If we learn that such information was submitted, we will remove it.
Your Data Rights
Rights may vary with a visitor's location and the law that applies. The Tennessee Public Records Act, T.C.A. §§ 10-7-503 and 10-7-504, governs access to Tennessee government records and their confidential categories; it does not turn this private site's visitor logs into Macon County public records. Separately, T.C.A. § 38-6-120 supports the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation's public criminal-history dissemination through TORIS. Neither law means this website holds the source criminal record. Subject to legal and operational limits, you may:
- Request access to personal data we hold about you
- Ask that inaccurate personal data be corrected
- Seek deletion of personal data where applicable
- Object to or opt out of certain processing where applicable
Updates to This Policy
This policy may be revised as site practices or legal requirements change. A revised version becomes available here and carries its new effective date.
